Bury the Bourbon | 255 Milledge
When Ashley and Andrew told me about how they wanted to partake in the bury the bourbon tradition, I just knew I had to be there to help them capture the moment. I’ve loved getting to know these two during our engagement session. One of my favorite things about being a photographer is being invited into favorite traditions!
What exactly is burying the bourbon? It’s a distinctly Southern tradition of burying a bottle of bourbon, not whiskey, upside down at your venue exactly one month before your wedding day. Why? The folklore surrounding this act says that it’s the best way to keep the rain away! After you have said “I do,” you dig up the bourbon and either share it at your reception or save it for a special day. I’m not sure about you, but some bourbon with that first year wedding cake could hit the spot!
Ashley and Andrew chose a bottle of Blanton’s to participate in this tradition. That’s what you call splurging on the best! They made sure the stopper had the initial A on the horse’s back hoof. As a photographer, you know I’m always obsessed with the small details.
After burying the bourbon at their venue, 255 Milledge, we jumped over to the University of Georgia’s North Campus for a few couple’s portraits. Ashley, an Ole Miss grad, managed to keep a smile on her face the whole time!
Stay tuned for their upcoming wedding blog to see if burying the bourbon kept the rain away!
