Favorite Georgia Engagement Session Locations
While Atlanta and Athens offer countless incredible engagement photo locations that I love, there are also so many beautiful spots just outside the cities that are worth exploring. For couples who want something a little quieter, more scenic, or simply different from the typical city backdrops, the surrounding areas offer amazing variety. From peaceful lakes to charming small towns and nature preserves, these nearby locations can create a more relaxed atmosphere for photos. Sometimes stepping just outside the city leads to some of the most unique and memorable engagement session settings.

Some of these locations could be lumped into my Atlanta and Athens engagement session deep dives, but I thought they deserved a moment to shine on their own!
Athens Area
Madison
Madison will always be a special place for me because it’s my hometown! It’s such a beautiful setting for engagement sessions. The historic homes, tree-lined streets, and charming downtown create a timeless southern backdrop that photographs beautifully in every season. There’s a relaxed pace here that helps couples feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. From classic architecture to quiet gardens and open green spaces, Madison offers so much variety within a small area. It’s a place that feels romantic, welcoming, and full of character—perfect for engagement photos that feel both personal and meaningful.

I obviously have captured many wonderful couples around here. I know all the best spots! The best perk is we can always go back to my backyard for those perfect golden hour field portraits!

Lake Oconee
Lake Oconee is a beautiful location for couples who love being near the water. With peaceful shorelines, wooded surroundings, and stunning sunset views, it offers a relaxed and scenic backdrop for photos. The docks, marinas, and lakeside paths create natural variety, while the calm atmosphere makes sessions feel easy and unhurried.

Two of my favorite sessions have happened here, both at the exquisite Sandy Creek Barn!
Atlanta Area
Alpharetta
Alpharetta offers a perfect mix of modern charm and relaxed southern character, especially in the walkable downtown area. Brick pathways, string lights, fountains, and beautifully designed public spaces create a polished yet inviting atmosphere for photos. Nearby green spaces also provide natural backdrops that balance the urban setting. I especially loved Mill Creek Pond! With great light in the evenings and plenty of variety within a small area, Alpharetta allows couples to capture engagement photos that feel stylish, romantic, and full of personality while still being close to the energy of Atlanta.

Jacqueline and Luke’s engagement session even let me experiment with film, a favorite passion of mine!

Milton
Milton is a beautiful choice for engagement sessions for couples who love a quieter, countryside setting. Known for its rolling hills, horse farms, and scenic backroads, Milton offers a soft, natural backdrop that feels peaceful and romantic. Open fields, wooden fences, and tree-lined roads photograph beautifully, especially during golden hour. The area has a timeless rural charm while still being easily accessible from the city. Little River Farms and Painted Horse Winery have been two stunning locations for sessions I’ve had here!

Roswell
Roswell, just north of Atlanta, offers a wonderful blend of history, charm, and natural beauty. The historic downtown area features brick streets, classic southern architecture, and inviting storefronts that create a timeless setting for photos. Nearby parks and riverfront areas add variety with tree-lined paths, open green spaces, and scenic water views.
