Sandy Creek Barn Wedding
Maggie and Ryan’s Sandy Creek Barn Wedding on Lake Oconee was a sun-kissed stunner! I have spent many hours out on the lake with my husband, kids, family, and friends and I loved being able to shoot a wedding on this sentimental spot. With a stylish eye that perfectly blended classic and modern, I loved how Maggie’s vendors put her vision together.
When I looked back over the wedding photos, there is a sense of timelessness. I am always a fan of sticking to the classics, and a black bridesmaid dress is one of my favorites. Mixed in with the lush color of the grounds around them, and it made for stark contrasts that catch your eye. Especially when including the brilliant white of Maggie’s bouquet and dress. Every detail and decision led to an elegance that fed off the lake around them.
A Call Back to Their Engagement Shoot
And can we talk about the golden hour portraits? The ceremony took place next to the boathouse and I knew I had to sneak them out there for a few portraits afterwards. A few months before their wedding, we’d gone to this very boathouse for their engagement session. I love when you can bring things full circle. While everyone else retreated up to the cocktail hour in the barn, the lake’s lapping waters inundated the bride and groom with peace and a moment of solitude before the big party. And it was a big party!
After an absolutely stunning outdoor dinner under a white sailcloth tent, the reception moved back into the barn for some raucous dancing and loads of memories. The band was from Maggie’s alma mater, Auburn, and kept everyone engaged the entire time. The black and white candids were an absolute gem to capture! Sometimes, guests are too aware of the camera during the dancing and it leads to photos that feel stilted. That was not the case here!
