UGA Chapel Wedding | Athens, GA
Kelly and Jesse’s wedding at the UGA Chapel may have me convinced that they’re the University of Georgia’s number one fans! Everything about this wedding was Classic Athens. And as it’s basically my hometown, I knew exactly what to do! After the wedding, we did portraits at The Arch, if you know you know, before heading over to Chapel Athens for the reception!
Leading up to the ceremony, the first look at in the iconic Founder’s Garden. We made sure to get some portraits by the koi pond because that’s where Jesse proposed! I love incorporating little details like that into the wedding day.
After the ceremony, producing some of my favorite photos of the day, the bride and groom got to ring the bell of the chapel surrounded by their wedding party. It really kicked off the celebration in a fun and unique way!
Gilly Francis did such an amazing job planning and executing this wedding. You can never underestimate how much it pays off to work with a topnotch planner and she’s one of our favorites! We’ve got another wedding booked with her next year that we can’t wait to see what she pulls off!
So you want to get married in Athens…
First and foremost, if it’s between August and January, check the football schedule. Really, you should be avoiding all Saturdays in the fall (Go Dawgs!), but especially Saturdays with home games.
Second, no matter the time of year, consider hiring a transportation service if your venue and reception are in different locations. Parking can be exceedingly tricky for a group the size of a wedding. Not only that, but if you’re trying to hit multiple locations for photographs, the service could best position you for each one without having to maneuver all of the student and public parking nightmares.
Third, and I say this with a lot of experience: arrange for Hairy Dawg to make an appearance during your reception! This is always a guest favorite and, if you scroll down below, you can see it really ramps up the party.
So keep scrolling for some of my favorites of a Classic Athens wedding.
