Favorite Athens Engagement Session Locations

If there’s one thing I know after growing up in the area, it’s that Athens is a fantastic place for engagement sessions. It has locations filled with charm, character, and beautiful backdrops that give couples variety while still capturing the personality of the city. From the historic architecture and the lively streets of downtown and campus to the peaceful gardens and tree-lined paths around town, Athens offers so many options for romantic photos. With its mix of college-town energy and timeless southern scenery, Athens is a perfect setting for engagement photos that feel relaxed, meaningful, and authentic.

Hadden Estate

If you know one thing about my photography career, it’s probably that I absolutely adore the Hadden Estate. During peak season, I feel like I’m here once a month and I’m always excited to put an event there on my calendar. The blueberry fields are particularly glorious for engagement sessions. Gracie and Luke’s engagement session there is the perfect glimpse of why I love it so!

UGA North Campus

Engagement sessions on University of Georgia’s North Campus offer some of the most classic scenery in Athens. The historic buildings, iron gates, and brick walkways create a timeless college atmosphere that photographs beautifully in every season. Tree-lined paths and open lawns provide soft natural light and plenty of variety for portraits. Landmarks like the iconic Arch and the surrounding historic campus architecture add a meaningful touch, especially for couples who met at University of Georgia. It’s a perfect location for engagement photos that feel both elegant and deeply connected to Athens.

Downtown Athens

Downtown Athens offers a lively and character-filled setting for engagement photos. Colorful murals, historic brick buildings, and charming side streets create endless variety. The mix of classic architecture and vibrant local culture makes downtown perfect for couples who want photos that feel fun, energetic, and unmistakably Athens. I really think Meredith and Hunter’s engagement session captured this frenetic energy perfectly!

State Botanical Gardens of Georgia

State Botanical Garden of Georgia is one of the most beautiful and versatile locations for engagement sessions in Athens. With miles of scenic trails, colorful seasonal gardens, and quiet natural backdrops, it offers endless variety for romantic photos. The formal garden areas provide elegant floral settings, while wooded paths and open meadows create a softer, natural look. Beautiful bridges, stone pathways, and greenhouse spaces add texture and depth to portraits throughout the property. No matter the season, the gardens provide stunning light and peaceful surroundings, making it a perfect location for timeless, natural, and relaxed photos.

This location has definitely become one of my brides’ most popular requests lately, and it’s so easy to see why!

Lake Herrick

Lake Herrick is a beautiful and relaxed setting near the University of Georgia campus. The lake offers peaceful water views, wooded trails, and soft natural light throughout the day. The walking paths, dock areas, and surrounding greenery create a perfect spot for photos that are both outdoorsy and romantic.
This is really popular amongst couples who like to pair it with one of the other more urban locations above. It creates a really fun gallery!
